Katie Durante, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Nevada State College in Henderson, where she teaches in the Criminal Justice and Social Justice degree programs. She moved to Las Vegas and joined NSC in 2017.

Dr. Durante’s research expertise is focused on racial and ethnic disparities in sentencing outcomes and the impacts of incarceration on the family. She also has expertise in statistics and teaches quantitative data analysis courses, as well as other classes related to social justice and social inequality and crime. Her scholarly work has been published in numerous outlets.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminology from John Carroll University, a Master’s degree in Sociology from Cleveland State University, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to her employment at NSC she was a program-evaluation researcher on grants funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Bureau of Justice Administration (BJA) for the Hamilton County, Ohio drug court. There, she had the opportunity to interview hundreds of drug court clients in one of the counties most impacted by widespread opioid abuse in the nation.

Her strong dedication to social justice and serving the community is what led her to join the Citizen Review Board in 2020. She looks forward to continuing in this capacity as well as serving the community in other ways.
